US Fencing will confirm on Monday the first Town Hall Meeting with parents at the November NAC in Milwaukee at 5pm on Friday November 8, 2019.

We thank Mr, Donald Alperstein, US Fencing Board member for listening to parents’ concerns, and organizing this Town Hall Meeting to facilitate a constructive dialogue between parents and US Fencing’s leadership.

This is a very important start to a dialogue with US Fencing leadership, and FP encourages everyone to make time for this meeting if they are in Milwaukee on Friday.

Please also spread the word of this meeting so that we can maximize parents’ attendance.

The details of the Town Hall Meeting are as follows:

Date

Friday, November 8, 2019

Time

5.00 pm

Place

Milwaukee Convention Center, Meeting Room 202 D/E

Confirmed Attending from US Fencing:

  • Donald Anthony, President and Board Member

  • Jeff Salmon, Vice-President and Board Member

  • Donald Alperstein, Board Member

  • Christine Simmons, Senior Operations Director

  • Bob Bodor, Senior Manager of Member Services

  • Other members of US Fencing Board and staff on an “as available” basis.

The several topics that FP has hammered on for the last year that matter the most to parents include the following:

  • event scheduling at NACs

  • earlier announcement of NAC check-in times so that families can book earlier and lock in cheaper fares

  • confirmation of new improved metrics for selection of NAC locations starting in 2020/2021

  • what is US Fencing doing to reduce referee “bad” calls

  • fair and reasonable national and regional competition structures to reduce “overcrowded” NAC and Summer Nationals fields

  • diversification of funding sources away from NAC fees

  • greater financial support for fencers who represent the US internationally at cadet, junior and senior levels

  • parent representation within US Fencing

  • anything else that bugs you that US Fencing leadership can help resolve.

Request

I had not been planning on going to the November NAC, and flights are now too expensive LA to Milwaukee RT for me to just hop on a flight to attend the Town Hall Meeting ($700+ in airfare plus 2 nights hotel due to bad flight schedule).

So, I need a parent volunteer to set up a Skype or Facebook call with me so I can attend the meeting that way. Please email me at editor@fencingparents.org if you are attending the Town Hall Meeting and can help me set this up.
