Avoid the Lines! Make sure you get your PCR test verified the day before your event at Summer Nationals or submit proof of vaccination online!
Updated on July 1, 2020 to include link to submit proof of vaccination online
After receiving concerned emails from parents about the potential for long lines at morning check-in at Summer Nationals in Philadelphia, we asked US Fencing how they would organize check-in given that everyone needs to show proof of a negative PCR test or vaccination daily. We pointed out that the long lines in June in Richmond where the fields were smaller gave us cause for concern.
US Fencing confirmed by email with FP that there would be a total of 7 booths, 4 of which would be dedicated to fencers and the other 3 would be for coaches, officials and presumably parents. US Fencing also confirmed that fencers can get their PCR or vaccination verified the day before their event. Check-in to the event must still be done on the day of the event.
Below we show you how many fencers will be checking in every day by time, segmented into one hour increments since fencers who have events starting at 8.00am are very likely to overlap in line with those starting at 8.30am. We assumed that the check-in booths open at 6.30am. which means that US Fencing will have between 1.5 hours to 2 hours to complete check-in before an event starts in the morning. We calculated the average amount of time available to process each fencer in the morning, and on some days, US Fencing had only 30 seconds to process each fencer. This means that those late to the line may have little to no warm up period at all.
Because of how tight the timing is in the morning, we strongly urge everyone to follow US Fencing’s guidance to get their PCR test or Vaccination verified the day before the event.
Better yet, if you vaccinated, you can upload proof online and receive a QR code that can be scanned daily.
Please share this information with those who you know are going to Summer Nationals to minimize wait times in line in the morning.
