US Fencing to Host Foil Grand Prix in March 2022 in Conjunction with SYC and/or SJCC

The International Events Task Force recommended to the US Fencing Board on May 26, 2022 to accept the FIE’s invitation to host the Men’s and Women’s Foil Grand Prix in March 2022.

The Task Force recommended that the Grand Prix be held in a population hub in conjunction with an SYC and/or SJCC. The Task Force expects that the SYC/SJCC participants will provide a natural audience for the Grand Prix, and make financial success of the whole event more likely. The opportunity to watch the Grand Prix would also serve as an inspiration for young fencers.

The Task Force recommended that US Fencing not host the Junior Men’s Saber World Cup in January 2022 unless a 3rd party organizer could be found to underwrite the event.

The Task Force recommended that US Fencing not host the Senior Women’s Saber World Cup in conjunction with an SYC and/or SJCC in January 2022 due to venue challenges and greater financial risk.

The Task Force was mindful of the need for financial prudence given the impact of the pandemic on US Fencing’s overall financial position.
